Resources

Here's a list of useful bioscience resources. This list is always being updated to provide a more comprehensive list to the community. If you come across more useful sites, please contact us and we'll add them to the list.

*****************************************************************************************
Associations:
Colorado BioScience Association (http://www.cobioscience.com): The Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA) facilitates the growth of the industry in Colorado through advocacy, representation and service. They host a variety of educational seminars both in Boulder and Denver.  They're audience is usually senior scientists, however, there are a great number of business leaders (VC, Law, Regulatory, IP) associated with this organization as well.

Boulder Innovation Center (http://www.boulderinnovationcenter.com): The Boulder Innovation Center assists Boulder Area Businesses overcome road blocks and obstacles encountered in business growth and works with the University of Colorado Technology Transfer Program in launching new businesses based on University technologies and intellectual property.  They have an advisor network of over 700 industry members who can act as business drivers or scientific consultants.

Fitzsimmons BioBusiness Partners (http://www.fbbp.org): The Fitzsimmons BioBusiness Partners (FBBp) offer a range of services to start-up companies/ideas.  They are business consultants for biotech companies and have a good reputation in the area.  They typically arrange a group of advisors (VC, angels, industry execs) to see if an idea could be funded, but they also help in Company formation, Business model development, Research planning, Market analsyis, Patent and competitive landscape evaluation, Fundraising, regulatory and reimbursement pathways, and other general issues.

Colorado Institute for Drug, Device and Diagnostic Development (http://cid4.com/):
Founded in 2009, the Colorado Institute for Drug, Device and Diagnostic Development (CID4) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization whose mission is to advance the Colorado bioscience ecosystem through company creation and job growth.

CU Departments:
Colorado Initiative in Molecular Biotechnology (http://cimb.colorado.edu): The CIMB is an initiative at CU first proposed in 2001 and formally started in 2003. Its mission is to foster new research, teaching, and technology development at the interface of life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, computational sciences, and engineering. Part of their strategic mission is to foster scientific innovation through cross-fertilization of ideas (interdisciplinary collaboration).  Jana Watson-Caps is heavily involved with the CU Biotech Club and is spearheading the new seminar series in Biotech and facilitating the creation of new curriculum in the business of Biotechnology.

Technology Transfer Office (https://www.cu.edu/techtransfer): CU Technology Transfer Office (TTO) protects and licenses the intellectual property (IP) - inventions and some discoveries - generated from research scientists.  In some cases, they will facilitate the creation of a start-up business based on the IP.

Useful Websites:
Biopharm International (http://biopharminternational.findpharma.com/biopharm):  A good site for articles/blog posts on all pharma related issues.  Includes current business news (globally), Lab tools and techniques, Quality Control, Regulatory (FDA), Strategic hints for contract/ technology transfer negotiation and more.

Biospace (http://www.biospace.com/):  Biotech news.  I like this site because it breaks the space up into Pharma, Devices, Clinical Trials, and Academic news segments.
